WANAKA — LAKE OHAU LODGE, 16th March, 2021

We left Wanaka at 9.30am after going back to the west side of the Lake first.  Travelled through the Lindus Pass Alpine Highway. Stopped for lunch at Omarama. Then we headed further north to Lake Ohau Lodge. The turn off for the Lodge is south of Twizel.  About 20 mins drive to Lake Ohau. Amazing scenery with the high mountains either side of the lake. Drove through Lake Ohau Alpine Village then onto the Loge where we will stay one night. They have facilities for motorhomes providing power supply out the back of the Lodge looking up to the mountains. Beautiful spot perfect day. So pleased we decided to come out this way. Lots of people due to being on the cycle track that runs through the country. This brings lots of people here during the summer months. And snow skiing in the winter.

Tomorrow we are off to Mt Cook Glentanner Holiday Park. The dot just under Mt Cook.

Just another quick look out at the West end of Lake Wanaka just before we left this morning.

I am now going to take you for a drive over the Lindus Pass Alpine Highway. 

Stopped here for a coffee by this small river.

The scenery is so different to Authers Pass and Haast Pass.

Through Lindus Pass you will note there are no big rivers.

I found this not sure if it could have been a house or just a shed.

All very dry and barron.

We have now turned off from highway 8 taking us down to Lake Ohau.

Having a drive through Lake Ohau Alpine Village.

The October fires last year were all around this village so close to all the houses. You can see some remaining burnt trees. They never did hear what caused it.

What a fantastic place really had a great time watching the America’s Cup  in the lounge with about thirty or more people. Had our first  couple of drinks all holiday.  Met lots of nice people mostly cylists that come through doing the cycle tracks. It must be a great business using both seasons with the cyclists and the skiers. Very busy place. Beautiful place to visit,
