GLENTANNER PARK — LAKE TEKAPO, 19th March, 2021

A cracker day, no low cloud this morning. Drove back down the side of Lake Pukaki on our way to Lake Tekapo. Enjoyed the scenery down the side of the lake. Then along the bottom of the lake which was a stunning drive. Then continuing to Mt John a very high hill just before coming into Lake Tekapo. Drove to the top  to see these magnificent views all around Lake Tekapo and a cafe. Had a bite to eat and took lots of photos. The perfect day for it. We had to pay $8 to go up as there was an observatory for star gazing. We were told that the skies are very clear in this area and very seldom would you have low cloud come in like the Mt Cook area. Came back down the very steep hill in places not nice coming down as the road was good but narrow so not sure what happens when you meet someone coming the other way. Then off to see the little Church of the Good Shepherd. Finally got to Lake Tekapo Motels and Holiday Park at about 2.00pm. Very nice. Then relaxed sitting out in the sun and admiring our views. The photos we took up Mt John and arriving in Lake Tekapo will be in tomorrow’s blog to keep it under the title of Lake Tekapo. We are having two nights here.

Before we left camp this morning at Glentanner Park. More of an idea of the park. Plenty of room between sites amongst the pine trees. We are first right. The barron rocky hills behind. Another excellent Park.

One last look at Mt Cook before we left.

Watched the helicopter take off from our camp. It had bikes on the side of it so we could only presume it was taking people up into the mountains to bike down one of the cycle tracks. So many bike trials around the South Island.

Just across from the salmon shop we went across the other side of the road and looked down at this canal that takes the overflow from Lake Pukaki. Running very fast. We then drove around to get on the road that runs down the right hand side of the canal.

Above and below while looking for the above turn off we ended up in this pretty area (note the duck swimming towards me) where the fisherman come in their motorhomes/ caravans and stay a few nights and fish in the canals. A free camping area.

You can see a camper tucked away amongst the trees.

This photo shows the fisherman’s campers parked on the above area in front of the little pretty area three photos up. You can just see the fisherman on the bank of the canal. PT is in there somewhere chatting to the guys.
