CHRISTCHURCH — 4th March 2021

Weather turned out better as the day went on. Cloud lifted and it was fine all day no sign of rain. We got the bus into town and changed buses to take us out to the Gondola and then down to Lyttleton Harbour.
We have arrived at the Gondola. PT wasn’t going to go up then when the bus stopped he was very brave and said let’s go.

Starting to move, real scared.

We are away on our way to the top.

Just about at the top. About 450 metres. Not really that high.

This isn’t so bad after all. Until the thing stopped half way up. There were a few loud words. I said no probs they would be stopping as behind us there were a couple well in their eighties and they probably wouldn’t be quick enough to get in while it was moving as you usually do. A few more loud words!!!

Made it!! Now at the top. PT remarks he is going to run down rather than go on that thing again!!!!

At the top there is a viewing deck which runs around a cafe. Looking down over Lyttleton Harbour.

If you zoom in you will see the New Brighton Pier.

IT STOPPED over the below road. Again we had a performance but we got through that one while we were dangling there.

Just taking in the view while we sit there waiting looking out the other way.

Moving on you can see one of the walking tracks.

Getting closer. PT hates going over the pulley wheels on the poles in front.

Nearly there.

Made it back, now on the ground looking back up the hill. Doesn’t look steep from this angle but in places it seemed we were going straight into the hill. 😩

Caught the bus again and continued down to Lyttleton township.

Now down at the harbour where they stack the logs.  As you can see rows and rows and rows  of  logs stacked up  like this waiting to be shipped away.

This ship was being loaded up.

The road that’s runs along the bottom behind the wharf area.

At the end of the road two old pubs which just survived the quake but we were advised they  were closed. Another Pub down the other end of  the road is damaged beyond repair and is on quite a lean.    Obviously a town of many pubs.

All this area on the same road has been cleared completely of the  remains of the fallen buildings. Lyttleton was  hit badly  by the Quake.

Now back at our unit after a busy day on the buses. The whole of the upstairs is our unit, very comfortable
These lovely roses  are growing all over the grounds here, very pretty. Now to get some dinner ready.
