LAKE TEKAPO, 20th March, 2021.

Woke up to low cloud today but fortunately it lifted and it turned out another sunny day once the sun came through the cloud. This morning was cold without the sun so we walked into town which took about 20mins. Just going to relax in camp for the afternoon. Just as well I took most of the Tekapo photos yesterday when we arrived. Especially up Mt John.

Tomorrow we are now going down to Timaru for one night, not going up to Mt Somers until Monday. Slight change of plan.

Bottom end of Lake Tekapo. The Village and our camp is just out of sight right corner. You’ll have to agree the water is a stunning colour.

Looking down further up lake Tekapo. The road is narrow and gets quite steep in places. You can see how this road suddenly drops down.

We went straight to the famous Church of the Good Shepherd  before we checked into camp.

It is kept locked now as vandals ransacked inside some time back which is unfortunate as you cannot enter and admire beautiful view from within looking towards a distant island. What’s wrong with people.

I just love this golden tussock grass. It’s over the mountains and used as landscaping which is very common in the south.
The pedestrian bridge over the river to go between the Village and the Church, which is viewed by all tourists.
Now arrived at the Lake Tekapo Motel Holiday Park.The view from the back of the van. There is quite a step bank behind us.

Our view, what a beautiful place. Front row site 28 but 29 would be the best in camp. Big camp which is terraced up the hill behind us. They are in the middle of doing the whole place up. Really nice place to stay.

Went for a walk into the Village this morning. The clouds were down low but as the morning went on they lifted and it was another sunny day but a little cooler. I found these two creatures in Lake Tekapo township.

Clouds over the hills in the morning. Looking back over the Church of the Good Shepherd. The bridge I showed previously, takes you directly to the church  from town. Beautiful position for a church to sit looking over the lake.

Looking up at Mt John doesn’t look very high from down on Lake level, but it was.
A couple of photos around camp. They also have glamping, motels and cabins, a big place. Going to look very nice when all completed. The facilities have all been modernised. Flash.


More views from our site. Being Saturday a few Jet Skies and boats with water skiers. A cooler wind today so it must have been cold on the lake. Even swimmers out there.

Watched these beautiful colours appear as we were sitting looking out of the motorhome. Beautiful way to end two wonderful days here in Lake Tekapo.
